Legacy Projects

Legacy Projects allow ESFCA to build on the past and look to the future by supporting, creating and sponsoring different activities for looked after children, children who foster and their families. These projects ensure everyone is able express their views with an end goal of changing the childs perception of themselves and the ways in which they are perceived by others.

NO CHILD DESERVES A RUBBISH BAG

One of the many issues a child has to face when they are removed from their family or are moving in an emergency is having to leave swiftly and sometimes without their belongings. As a result, their things are moved around in a bin bag.

No child should have to face the distressing sight of having their belongings packed into plastic bags, especially when finding themselves in such difficult circumstances through no fault of their own.

Black plastic bags are designed for rubbish and NOT for a child’s personal belongings.

ESFCA are proud to have a stock of luggage bags available to social workers, assessment teams and carers. We have already distributed over 200 suitcases to children that have had to be moved as an emergency or other such circumstances.

This was made possible by the amazing generosity from Tripp Luggage who has continued to support ESFCA over the last 5 years.

Make it Reel Project

Our ‘Make it Reel Project’ focuses on the ‘typical’ family structure that includes grandparents. This concept looks at the idea of having grandparents to treat children with small extras. Unfortunately, our looked after children often miss out on this joy in life and the influence these kind of relationships have.

ESFCA recognise the importance of this and with a very generous donation from the Reel Poster Company, we have been able step into this role. ESFCA does acknowledge that the East Sussex County Council has a responsibility to provide for the needs of its LAC (Looked After Children) so the “Make it Reel Project” can only be accessed via a foster child’s social worker. This is to ensure that these services really are going where they are most needed.

ESFCA would like to thank the Reel Poster Company for their lasting support.

Room to Rant

‘Room to Rant’ was inspired by the poet Lemn Sissay and his drive to allow children in care to express themselves through poetry and performance.

ESFCA was delighted to work with the CICC and financially support them in putting together two workshops where they had the opportunity to write and perform a rap song. This performance focuses on their feelings of being in care as well as loss and separation. ESFCA strives to empower young people to develop their own ideas, especially when these projects support positive mental health.

Children in Care Council

ESFCA is proud to support the Children in Care Council which is an independent group of young people aged between 13-18 who are all in care, living in East Sussex. They meet up regularly to speak on issues that matter to them and other young people in care.

ESFCA were delighted to be able to support the CICC with their ambition of trying to reach children when they first entered the care system. This amazing group had an idea that they wanted to give every child who came into care (within East Sussex) a rucksack containing items that they may need. The CICC did some research into what was needed in each rucksack and came up with ideas such as:

  • Toothbrush/ toothpaste

  • Hygiene products

  • Socks

  • Soft Toy

  • Hair Brush

  • Pen & Notepad

  • Newsletter
